Good morning I wanted to take a minute to answer a question that we’ve gotten a lot of in the last couple weeks. That question is if I wear glasses, is it making my eyes worse? The answer quite simply is no. It’s not going to make your eyes worse as long as it’s the prescription that your doctor prescribed and you’re wearing it as your doctor recommended.
So if you’re wearing the wrong prescription or if you’re wearing a pair of glasses that are indirectly causing some eye strain because they’re fit incorrectly. That can make your eyes feel a little bit worse. Your prescription is not going to get worse just as a function of wearing glasses. As a matter of fact, sometimes the opposite can happen.
I think what’s important to remember is that it might feel like you’re depending on your glasses more and that’s simply because your eyes and your brain, like your body, likes it when things are a little bit easier. So you’re having a little bit less eye strain and your glasses are providing that relief so yeah naturally you’re gonna want to wear them more.
It’s going to feel better when you wear them and that’s how it should be. Glasses are designed to make your life better, not worse, and they certainly aren’t going to make your eyes worse. It’s a very very common myth but it doesn’t work that way. Your eyes can get worse whether you wear glasses or not, and in a lot of cases, more likely to get worse if you’re not wearing them the way you’re supposed to you.
